Myodocha serripes, or the long-necked seed bug, is a dirt-colored insect in the Rhyparochromidae family, common in North America,
These bugs overwinter in woodlands and migrate to fields in spring, are attracted to lights, and are generally harmless to humans.
They also exist under rocks and other natural hides like logs and fallen debris, which is where this one was found alongside many of his brothers and sisters.
"Serripes" means "saw-footed", which is where their species name originates, due to the sharp points protruding from their front legs.
They range from eastern North America, from Quebec to Florida and west to Colorado and New Mexico; Overwintering in woodlands and move to fields in spring and summer.
Most active in autumn; adults are often found near lights, and as their common name suggests, they feed on seeds, particularly those of strawberries and St. John's wort.
