Spiders #Araneae exoskeletons consist mainly of chitin combined with protein (endocuticle) and a non-chitin outermost subdivision (epicuticle). Its safer to make your outermost layer out of something other than what fungi need to grow themselves. Creates a dilemma for fungi wanting spider dinner.

Saw another Texas Brown (A. hentzi) strolling by and wanted to give him a lift back out into the wild. Big guy was very docile but mobile, so most of the pics didn't turn out. Always a pleasure to encounter one of these sweethearts, though. ๐
